Plans:   Excellent

AT&T has a number of plans to choose from that fit all types of callers’ needs.  Prepaid, individual, family, mobile-to-mobile and data plans are all available.  AT&T also offers limited free phones when you sign a contract.

Minutes/Features:   Excellent

Where AT&T jumps ahead of other cell phone providers is in its cell phone selection, ranging from basic budget cell phones to smartphones.  AT&T is the only cell phone provider to sell the popular iPhone from Apple.

Aside from standard features like free nights and weekends, mobile-to-mobile and free domestic long distance, AT&T also offers roadside assistance.  But its key feature is rollover minutes—whatever minutes you don’t use from your allotment one month are carried over and added onto your minutes the next month.  Rollover minutes let you subscribe to cheaper plans, as your minutes gradually add up to use during those busy months.

Fees:   Excellent

AT&T’s fees run about the same as other cell phone providers, incorporating the standard $35 activation fee for a two-year contract.  They offer a 30-day grace period to return your phone if you don’t like it, which can come in handy.  But if you need to cancel your contract early, AT&T charges only $175, as opposed to the $200 most cell phone providers charge.

Included in Basic Plan:   Excellent

Depending on the type of caller you are, you’ll get different features with different plans.  But features standard to AT&T’s basic plan include voice mail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, and conference calling.  Walkie-talkie features are also available on some phones.

Help & Support:   Excellent

AT&T customers have several different customer support options, including phone support, a FAQs page on their website as well as an email address, online forum and live chat. You can also contact AT&T directly from your cell phone by dialing *611. AT&T has extensive coverage in the East and Midwest, but less extensive in the mountain regions of the West. Check out their coverage map here.

Summary:

Whether you need a prepaid, individual, family or data plan, AT&T, one of the leading cell phone providers in the U.S., offers the plan that will most likely fit your needs.  Plus, they offer a bundle of features to add on for extra fun and functionality.
