STi Mobile offers a rather unique approach to prepaid cell phone service plans. First, there are two rather economical daily usage plans. The first costs a mere $.09 daily plus $.089 per minute used. The second is $.25 per day but the cost per minute is lowered to $.079. So which plan is better? Not surprisingly, it depends on how much time you use in a typical day. At sixteen minutes per day, the plans’ costs are identical. For the very light user who uses fifteen minutes of airtime daily or less, there’s a small advantage to choosing the $.09 per day plus $.089 per minute option. If you use more that fifteen minutes daily, opt for the $.25 per day plan.
If most of your calling is done at night or on weekends there are a couple of other options that could be attractive. The Xtra Talk 9PM plan costs $24.99 per month and offers unlimited talk on weekends and evenings beginning at 9:00PM. On this plan, calling outside of the night and weekend parameters costs $.15 a minute. The Xtra Talk 7PM plan runs $29.99 monthly but the night period begins earlier at 7:00PM and the per minute cost is lowered to $.15.
STi Mobile’s selection of phones is limited to three pretty basic devices that range in cost from $36.99-$59.99. The good news is that each comes complete with $20 of airtime.
STi Mobile is one of a very few prepaid wireless providers which offers the push-to-talk or walkie-talkie capability. The prices for text messaging and mobile web are lower than most other prepaid providers but some expected features such as CallerID and call waiting are absent.
